This is our first vintage of the pinot noir grapes. In 2007 we planted four different clones MV6, 777, 114 and 115, all grafted on to 101-14 rootstock. It was not until 2013 that we were convinced of the quality to justify bottling under the Rotherwood label.
Our head consultant, leading wine judge Nick Bulleid MW, had this to say following his first tasting…
“the wine is aromatic, with ripe red fruits in the plum/cherry/strawberry spectrum. It’s relatively delicate…but is quite rich and plump on the mid palate… The tannins are fine and even, without green edges or bitterness… This will make a very good wine once it responds to barrel-maturation.”
And indeed it has.
The wine is now bottled and is delicious, confirming Nick’s initial assessment. Alcohol is positively Burgundian at 12.5%
