The pinot gris clone D1V7 and the pinot grigio clone VCR5 were grafted onto three rootstocks, 101-14, Telecki 5 C and Schwarzman and planted in 2007. At Rotherwood we strive to make a wine that occupies the centre ground of the pinot gris / pinot grigio spectrum. We pick when the grapes reach a brix of 22 or 23. We should perhaps label our wine a “Pinot G”.
Our 2015 Pinot Grigio has fresh pear aroma with a hint of lemon. The palate is soft and dry with citrus and pear flavours, finishing with balanced acidity. The alcohol level is 12% and everything about the wine is in harmony. It’s delicious with chicken, seafood or simply by itself.
